New Pc Client To Do List

β˜‘οΈ New PC Client β€œTo-Do” List

Before a technician comes out to help set up your new computer, there are several things a user should prepare to ensure the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible!

1. Physical Setup & Power

  • Power Outlets: Verify there are enough power outlets available near the setup area. Consider using a surge protector to protect the equipment.
  • Peripheral Devices:
    • Gather any peripherals you plan to use (printers, scanners, external hard drives, or additional monitors).
    • Have the necessary cables and drivers for these devices ready.

2. Internet & Network Access

  • Internet Connection: Ensure your internet connection is working.
  • Wired Connection: If using a wired connection, have an Ethernet cable ready.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: If using Wi-Fi, have the network name (SSID) and password handy.

3. Data & Software Readiness

  • Software and Licenses:
    • Gather any software installation discs or download links.
    • Have license keys or serial numbers ready for any paid software that needs to be installed.
  • Data Backup:
    • If transferring data from an old computer, back up the data to an external drive or cloud storage.
    • Have the backup device or access to the cloud storage available for the technician.
    • (Note: The technician can complete the data backup procedure for you, but this can add more time and labor cost to the setup and migration process.)

4. Accounts & Documentation

  • User Accounts:
    • Have information ready for any user accounts that need to be set up (email addresses, usernames, and passwords).
    • If setting up accounts for multiple users, make a list of each user’s details.
  • Documentation: Have any relevant documentation, such as computer manuals, available for reference.
  • Software Preferences: Make a list of preferred software and settings so the technician can customize the setup to your liking.
  • Contact Information: Provide your contact information and any specific instructions to the technician.

By preparing these items in advance, the technician will be able to set up your new computer more efficiently, saving time and ensuring a smooth transition.
