To keep your Mac running smoothly, you can use Malwarebytes Free for malware scanning and OnyX for system cleanup and maintenance.
Step 1: Scan for Malware Using Malwarebytes Free
Malwarebytes is excellent for detecting and removing adware, PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), and general malware.
- Install Malwarebytes Free:
- Download Malwarebytes Free for Mac from the official website.
- Open the
.dmgfile and install it by dragging it into the Applications folder.
- Run a Malware Scan:
- Open Malwarebytes and click βScanβ.
- If threats are detected, click βQuarantineβ to remove them.
- Restart your Mac if prompted.
Step 2: Perform System Cleanup with OnyX
OnyX is a powerful Mac maintenance tool that can clear caches, logs, and optimize performance.
- Install OnyX:
- Download OnyX from the Titanium Software website - www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html
- Crucial: Make sure to get the version that matches your macOS version.
- Open the
.dmgfile and move OnyX to the Applications folder.
- Grant OnyX Permissions:
- The first time you open OnyX, macOS will ask for administrator permissions. Enter your Mac password when prompted.
- Run Maintenance & Cleanup:
- Open OnyX.
- Go to the Maintenance tab.
- Select:
- System & User Cache (frees up space).
- Log Files (removes unnecessary logs).
- Temporary Items (deletes junk files).
- Click Run Tasks and wait for OnyX to finish.
- Restart your Mac to complete the cleanup.
