This guide covers connecting a printer to Wi-Fi and setting up the printer on a computer using a Static IP address or Hostname.
Setup/Connect Printer to Wi-Fi
(Note: The detailed steps for connecting the printer itself to Wi-Fi—usually done via the printer’s control panel or a setup app—are not provided in the source text, but this step is assumed to be completed first.)
Static IP/Hostname Setup
1. Add a Printer via Static IP/Hostname On Windows
This method ensures a permanent, reliable connection by bypassing reliance on automatic network discovery.

- Choose Add a printer using the printer’s Static TCP/IP address or its Hostname.
- Enter the printer’s Static IP or Hostname and follow the prompts to install the printer driver.
- (Optional): Download and install the needed drivers and software directly from the appropriate manufacturer’s support website.
2. Add a Printer via Static IP/Hostname On macOS
- Go to System Preferences $\rightarrow$ Printers & Scanners $\rightarrow$ Add (+).
- Select IP at the top of the dialog window.
- Enter the printer’s Static IP or Hostname.
- Choose the printer’s protocol (usually IPP or AirPrint) and follow the prompts.
- (Optional): Download and install the needed drivers and software directly from the appropriate manufacturer’s support website.
